AASANDHA SCHEME - OVERSEAS TREATMENT
Referred from Maldives
Aasandha scheme provides coverage for overseas treatment when required services are not available in the Maldives. Patients are referred to empaneled hospitals in India and Sri Lanka.
Referrals to hospitals in Bangkok or the UAE are subject to additional criteria beyond the standard overseas referral process. These referrals are only considered when the required treatment is not available at empaneled hospitals in India or Sri Lanka.
Application Process
To apply for overseas treatment, the following steps must be completed:
- Referral form must be completed by a specialist doctor
- Patient or guardian must apply via the My Aasandha Portal, Front Office, Regional Counters, and via email. with all required documents
These steps are mandatory for case registration.
Once registered, case status updates are sent via SMS within 24 hours. Updates can be checked through the customer service hotline 1400.
Required Documents:
- Recommendation Form
- Copy of the national ID card
- Supporting documents (medical history, reports, investigations, etc)
- Medi-form
A) Aasandha Recommendation Form

- This form must be completed by a specialist doctor at a government healthcare facility or a registered private healthcare provider under the Aasandha scheme.
- This form has to be submitted within 60 days from the date the doctor completed the form.

- A clear copy of the applicant's National Identity Card (both side).

C) Supporting Medical Documents

- Copies of the most recent medical documents related to the condition for which treatment is sought. This includes supporting documentation such as the latest prescriptions, laboratory test reports, and imaging/scan reports.

D) MEDI Form (if required)

- The Medi-form is required if the patient is transferred in cases such as, wheelchair support, oxygen, ventilator, stretcher etc, whenever a patient is transferred via flights for travel authorization from the airline s. This form is available from Aasandha and airline offices. The Medi-form should be completed by the attending doctor and stamped by the health facility. The patient will require the original of the Medi-form to travel on the flight.

Travel arrangements
Before travelling, the patient party must send Pre-Counseling Acknowledgement Mail or the Signed Pre-Counseling Form and signed consent letter (if required). Patient party must inform Aasandha via call after checking seat availability from Maldivian Holidays.
The letter to issue the tickets will be mailed to Maldivian Holidays and copied to the patient party mail. The letter to initiate the treatment from the Hospital (referral letter) will be mailed by Aasandha to the approved hospital and to the patient party.
Cases requiring Ambulance from abroad
Aasandha will communicate with Maldivian Holidays, issue the tickets and make any necessary arrangements for emergency cases, where the patient requires wheelchair support, oxygen, ventilator, stretcher etc, during travelling. Ambulance will be arranged from the airport to the hospital for such patients.
Any changes to flight schedules should be informed to Aasandha. Once the patient arrives at the overseas destination, a contact number for the patient should be provided to Aasandha.
